The School of Computing, Mathematics and Engineering recently hosted the 2026 IT Bootcamp, bringing together undergraduate and postgraduate Information Technology students from our Port Macquarie on-campus and online cohorts for three and a half days of immersive learning, professional development, and authentic industry engagement.
Embedded within the University’s Work Integrated Learning (WIL) subjects ITC396 – IT Work Placement and ITC599 – Industry Practice, the Bootcamp is designed to prepare students for professional placements and graduate careers by connecting classroom learning with real-world industry experiences.
Throughout the week, students participated in a diverse program of technical and career development workshops, exploring topics including artificial intelligence, concept drift in real-world applications, the Internet of Things (IoT), digital transformation, and advanced data analytics. Alongside these technical sessions, students strengthened their employability through work placement preparation, resume and interview coaching, and mock interview practice.

A highlight of the Bootcamp was the Information Technology Industry Connections event, where students engaged directly with industry leaders and employers to gain valuable insights into graduate recruitment, employer expectations, career pathways, and the technical and professional skills required to succeed in today’s rapidly evolving IT sector. The event also provided students with invaluable opportunities to build professional networks and learn from experienced practitioners.
The success of the Bootcamp reflects the strong collaboration between academic staff, professional staff, industry partners, alumni, and the Charles Sturt Careers and Skills team. Their collective expertise and commitment created a rich learning environment that equipped students with practical knowledge, industry connections, and greater confidence as they prepare for professional placements and future careers.
The IT Bootcamp exemplifies Charles Sturt University’s commitment to developing career-ready, employable graduates through authentic industry partnerships and work-integrated learning. By combining technical excellence with professional skill development, the program continues to provide students with meaningful experiences that support a successful transition from university to the IT profession.
Dr Sabih Rehman is passionate about teaching and is always looking for new and innovative ways to improve student engagement by embedding practical knowledge of concepts and theories. Moreover, he is also passionate about internationalisation and globalisation of higher education and has been actively involved in international offering of Charles Sturt’s IT programs.
