The Faculty Learning & Teaching Symposium 2025 brought together educators to explore innovation, collaboration, and creativity in higher education. Across two days, sessions offered practical insights into evolving pedagogical landscapes.
Day One opened with a welcome from Professor Lewis Bizo, followed by a panel on Assured/Secured Assessments, addressing challenges posed by generative AI. Showcase sessions featured diverse topics: from AI’s impact on transferable skills to pet photos enhancing student engagement, and transnational hybrid teaching models. Presenters shared research-informed strategies for engaging students in meaningful, culturally responsive ways.
Day Two began with the Ergo Cogito Keynote Panel. Podcast guests from series one spotlighting multidisciplinary dialogue and idea stacking. The session on Integrating First Nations Curriculum provided practical approaches to embedding Indigenous perspectives. A Brightspace Workshop offered updates and tools to streamline teaching and support academic integrity.
Each showcase presentation reflected a commitment to student-centred learning, ethical use of technology, and inclusive curriculum design. The symposium closed with reflections and the intentional acknowledgment of the contributions of all presenters.
This year’s program underscored the importance of conversation, combination, and collaboration in shaping the future of learning and teaching. From AI integration to cross-cultural pedagogy, the sessions offered actionable ideas and thoughtful provocations for educators navigating a rapidly changing educational landscape. Finding meaning and connection, it sparked valuable conversations and reminded us of the importance of sharing practice and learning from one another.
