Executive Dean’s Message | August 2025

Session 60 is in full stride, and with it comes another chance to reflect on the work we do together at Charles Sturt. This blog isn’t just an update — it’s a reminder that what happens here, in our lectures, our labs, and our communities, is the work of shaping the future.

Spring has arrived, and with it, longer days and brighter light. That’s more than just a change in the weather; it’s a reminder that renewal is always possible, that progress is never out of reach. Each of you — through teaching, research, and service — is writing the next chapter of this university and lifting the lives of the people and regions we serve.

So let’s mark this season with gratitude, and with resolve to celebrate the colleagues who make Charles Sturt University extraordinary, and to carry forward the energy and purpose that define us.

As part of our ongoing commitment to innovation in teaching and learning, I’m excited to invite you to the Teaching Symposium on 2–3 September—a two-day celebration of creativity, connection, and new ideas in education.

Through engaging presentations, showcases, and panels, we’ll explore how innovation grows through collaboration and conversation. From AI to global partnerships and culturally responsive curriculum, there’s something for everyone.

I am also excited for you to hear from the Keynote Panelists, whose insights have already enriched the Ergo Cogito podcast series (part of the BJBS News Blog). Their episodes offer thoughtful reflections and engaging conversations that set the stage beautifully for our live panel. I invite you to listen to their episodes here

As we continue exploring new possibilities in teaching and learning, we’re also excited to offer opportunities to build confidence in emerging technologies.

On the 4th and 5th of September, Zahid will lead our next ADR writing workshop, building on the outstanding success of the sessions he delivered in February.

The Teaching and Learning Symposium and the Writing workshops reflect the great work that Zahid and Kath have been putting in to provide professional development opportunities in the faculty, and are a testament to the way we want to invest in our people and their future career success.

I encourage you to take this opportunity. Step back from the busyness of the everyday and focus on your own development — in teaching, in research, in the craft of academic leadership. These moments of reflection and growth are what strengthen the extraordinary work you already do, and position us all to achieve even more.
