On Wednesday 31st May 2023, a student experience day was organised by Charles Sturt University at the Dubbo campus to offer high school students an insight into higher education. The School of Policing Studies (SOPS) and the Australian Graduate School of Policing and Security (AGSPS) were extended an invite to attend.
The event went extremely well. I represented both the SOPS and AGSPS along with Sgt Bianca Williams and Mr Alfie Walker (pictured above) the NSW Police Academy’s Aboriginal and First Nations support officers.
The student engagement with our stand was impressive and the feedback from the Charles Sturt University organisers, the students and other Charles Sturt University school representatives was extremely positive.
I presented to 30 interested students and a number of the teaching staff, what it means to be a police officer in the NSW Police Force and how to gain admission to the UCWE /ADPP programs of study. I also took the opportunity to introduce the students to the programs of study available at the Australian Graduate School of Policing and Security and the different modes of study available.
On the day, our corporate stand engaged with the highest number of students, closely followed by the School of Nursing.
What was apparent on the day was that students gained a first-hand experience of what it is like to study degree programs from NSW Police Force and Charles Sturt University from staff who are invested in the student experience. This clearly resonated with the young people who attended the experience day.
