Sub Dean TOL March Update

Sprint 1 Starts Today

Sprint 1 of the 202030 development period starts Monday, March 2.
The following subjects are scheduled to undergo TOL during this sprint:

  • HRM514
  • ITC114
  • ITC505
  • ITC568
  • LAW114
  • MGT540

In addition to these subjects, we are also applying the TOL template (without any additional development activities) to PSY114. The standalone application of our template will be an important step moving forward, since it will allow us to apply the TOL look and feel to subjects that may not otherwise be ready for full development work.

Jira Project Tracking

You might be wondering how we keep track of the various development stages of a subject as it goes through TOL.

Initially we used spreadsheets to track the pre-development, development, quality assurance and release phases, but now we are using Jira project tracking software for this purpose. Jira also allows us to easily report on our progress throughout the sprints. A big thank you to Justine Cunningham, our Project Administrative Officer, for setting up the TOL Jira boards.

Subject Overview Videos

Most people are aware that our TOL subjects feature an Academic Welcome video on the landing page. This video is professionally shot and edited by the TOL team.

Less well known, however, is the fact TOL also works with academics to produce a Subject Overview video for each subject we develop. The purpose of this video is to give commencing students an introduction to the subject before they dive into the topic content. A recent example of such a video is below. Here, Dr Anwaar Ulhaq introduces the subject ITC556 Database Systems.

What’s Happening with the Six Sessions?

You may recall that we are trialing the use of CSU-only courses and subjects (rather than an exclusive focus on partner offerings) as part of our Six Session implementation this year. This trial will cover the 202045 and 202075 terms. The subjects this applies to are listed below.

Session 202045 (commences 18th May)

  • FIN531 Investment Analysis
  • ITC556 Database Systems
  • ITI581 Cyber Security Fundamentals
  • MGI511 Project Management Fundamentals
  • MGT501 Contemporary Management

Session 202075 (commences 31st August)

  • FIN531 Investment Analysis
  • ITC556 Database Systems
  • ITC575 Foundations of Big Data Analytics
  • ITI581 Cyber Security Fundamentals
  • MGI511 Project Management Fundamentals
  • MGT501 Contemporary Management

These subjects will allow us to accept term applications for the Master of Business Administration, Master of Information Technology, Graduate Diploma of Financial Planning, and the Graduate Certificate in Applied Data Science, in addition to the full suite of IT Masters’ courses.
