From all the WPL BJBS family to yours we’d like to thank everyone who has supported or taken an interest in WPL this year. Together we’ve achieved a lot and are looking forward to even more in 2020. Enjoy a safe and relaxing break with your family and friends and see you all next year!
Recent bushfires and students on placement
The recent catastrophic bushfires were of great concern to us in WPL as students on placement locations were not immediately identifiable through Banner. A big thank you to Kirrily Welsh who worked hard with Di Plunkett to locate all BJBS students. Across the three faculties, Charles Sturt had 341 students on placement in fire zones. These students were all contacted and are safe. Thank you also to our wonderful WPL Manager, Jen Grainger whose team instantly stepped up and volunteered to provide after-hours support for students in need.
New student portal
A new and comprehensive version of the student portal is set for a staged rollout starting in December. WPL will feature independently with links back to the ‘single source of truth’ which is our faculty pages. We are working with Alice Coomans on ways to best present WPL and what we would like to see made available. There will be forthcoming discussions about the capacity for the new portal to house InPlace information on the student dashboard.
Service Learning Summit
The first-ever Service Learning summit was held at Griffith University in November. The conference was a great success and will be a bi-annual event held in the alternate year to the ACEN conference. The conference culminated with a presentation of the Principles of Collaboration with ACEN. Charles Sturt is keen to be involved in this new venture.
