Conference in Bathurst will push the frontiers of data mining

The 16th Australasian Data Mining Conference (AusDM) 2018 was held in Bathurst 28, 29 and 30 November and is the first time the conference has been organised by CSU.  Co-Chair of this year’s Conference was Associate Professor Zahid Islam from the School of Computing and Mathematics.

New technology to track grape development for better harvest

Measuring and tracking the development of grapes in the vineyard is now easier – thanks to a mobile phone app developed by the National Wine and Grape Industry Centre (NWGIC) and funded by Wine Australia.

The WineOz Smart Grape Android app was developed by a multidisciplinary research team of Professor Leigh Schmidtke from School of Agriculture and Wine Sciences, Dr Ken Ang and Dr Jasmine Seng from the School of Computing and Mathematics and is available for growers and vineyard managers to use this coming harvest.

Using machine learning to analyse Tweets to prevent crimes

Associate Professor Yeslam Al-Saggaf from the School of Computing and Mathematics, in his presentation “Expressing grievances in Twitter – a data science approach” to the CSU 2018 International Policing Conference in Sydney in early November posed and examined questions about machine learning and analysis of Tweets.

The GiCSA project inspiring girls into cyber security careers

Associate Head of the School of Computing and Mathematics, Associate Professor Tanveer Zia conducted the first of a series of Girls in Cyber Security Advancing (GiCSA) project workshops held at the CSU AgriTech Incubator in Wagga Wagga from 20 – 22 November.

Miao Li represents CSU at National Final of 5RP Research Pitch Competition

Congratulations to Miao Li of CSU Engineering who recently represented CSU at the national finals of the 5-Minute Research Pitch Competition at the University of Southern Queensland.
